Pembina – Hog Fuel Relocation, Sphere Foundations, and Mech Foundations

Hog Fuel Relocation & Rock Excavation

Strip and Stockpile 430,000 m3 Hog Fuel and organics to bedrock; Drill, blast and process 225,000m3 of rock; railway embankment construction to subgrade with processed rock; install smooth wall and corrugated steel pipe culverts; remove existing corrugated steel pipe culvert and backfill; remove an existing catch basin, and replace with a new catch basin manhole.

Sphere Foundations

Form, pour and place three foundations for the large propane Sphere Storage Tanks. Work included:  site prep, excavation, footing construction, structural fill, and establishing finish grade and drainage profile to the site. Sphere foundations consisted of high-strength 40 MPa concrete footings, each bearing on bedrock complete with a grade beam. The cumulative concrete volume for this scope was approximately 900 m3. Custom-built, cast-in-place manhole vaults were constructed to consolidate multiple underground effluent and storm services installed by the previous lease-holder into a single discharge line.

Mechanical Foundations Construction

Foundation excavation, subgrade preparation, structural backfill, firewater line excavation and backfill and from, pour and place cast-in-place concrete for the mechanical foundations package.  All foundations are either scribed to bedrock or placed on compacted structural fill. Aggressive critical path schedule to maintain foundations ahead of modular mechanical packages.
